Anyway, when I woke up on Sunday morning (late, of course, cause that's why we LOVE 12:30 church, RIGHT???), I texted Kim to see if she wanted to go to Walmart with me and SIN. I felt bad. But I had to get the stuff for Tom's project, right? I wanted to go with CPT on Saturday, but he was busy. And he kept saying he was ALMOST done. So I kept putting it off. And off. And off. Until it was 11pm, and I just eventually went to bed.
Anyway, Kim and I went to Walmart, and yeah, they had no Styrofoam balls. They had $16 1/2 balls for flowers. You know, those messy green things. That's not what Tom needed. Walmart was useless. So we went to JoAnns. I called Tom to figure out EXACTLY what he needed. He gave me more direct instructions. He needed paints, and toothpicks (or Popsicle sticks), and tags, and all sorts of stuff. Good thing I called, right? CPT wouldn't have gotten the right stuff, because he didn't have the right info at the time anyway... Even if he had been thinking about Styrofoam balls.
We got home, and CPT told me that he had some work stuff to do at the battery. And he COULD do it after church, but then he wouldn't get to see the family at all. So he'd decided to go during church, and hang with us when we got home. So we all got ready for the day, and headed out at the same time, us to church, and him to work.
The kids were fine at church. I taught Jim's primary class, and he was naughty for me. I wonder if he's naughty for his teacher, too? I hope not... He was kind of a turd.
I was glad when church was done, and we could head back home. We pulled in the driveway JUSt as CPT was getting home from work. Perfect timing. He fired up the grill, and we had hamburgers and hot dogs. And had a family home evening about media choices. Here's the "For the Strength of Youth" pamphlet had to say about it.
E N T E R T A I N M E N T A N D T H E M E D I A
“If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things”
(Articles of Faith 1:13).
Whatever you read, listen to, or look at has an effect on you. Therefore, choose only entertainment and media that uplift you. Good entertainment will help you to have good thoughts and make righteous choices. It will allow you to enjoy yourself without losing the Spirit of the Lord. While much entertainment is good, some of it can lead you away from righteous living. Offensive material is often found in web sites, concerts, movies, music, videocassettes, DVDs, books, magazines, pictures, and other media. Satan uses such entertainment to deceive you by making what is wrong and evil look normal and exciting. It can mislead you into thinking that everyone is doing things that are wrong.“If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things”
(Articles of Faith 1:13).
Do not attend, view, or participate in entertainment that is vulgar, immoral, violent, or pornographic in any way. Do not participate in entertainment that in any way presents immorality or violent behavior as acceptable.
Pornography in all its forms is especially dangerous and addictive. What may begin as a curious indulgence can become a destructive habit that takes control of your life. It can lead you to sexual transgression and even criminal behavior. Pornography is a poison that weakens your self-control, changes the way you see others, causes you to lose the guidance of the Spirit, and can even affect your ability to have a normal relationship with your future spouse. If you encounter pornography, turn away from it immediately. Depictions of violence often glamorize vicious behavior. They offend the Spirit and make you less able to respond to others in a sensitive, caring way. They contradict the Savior’s message of love for one another. Have the courage to walk out of a movie or video party, turn off a computer or television, change a radio station, or put down a magazine if what is being presented does not meet Heavenly Father’s standards. Do these things even if others do not. Let your friends and family know that you are committed to keeping God’s standards. You have the gift of the Holy Ghost, which will give you strength and help you make good choices.
We mostly talked about TV and movie choices. Jake had been saying that he didn't see anything wrong with rated R movies or TV-Ma shows. So we decided to have a Family Home Evening lesson on just exactly what WAS wrong about them. I don't know if it got through or now. To him, anyway. The other kids were listening :)
After Family Home Evening, we watched Journey to the Center of the Earth (the one with Brendan Frezier - or however you spell that) and had a nice family activity. Then, it was time to put kids to bed. Tom worked on his project in the other room on and off during the movie, and finished it up after. Jake took his dog on a walk, and after we got the little kids to bed, I started to blog.
Here it is, 7:55pm, and I'm done blogging. CPT and I might watch a movie tonight together. Tomorrow, the girls and I may go to Savers. Or swimming. Or maybe I'll stay home and have a designing marathon. Heaven knows how much catch up work I need to do! Oh yeah, did I tell you that I made my "Quick Start" goal in Miche for the first 30 days, and that I earned $150 worth of free products???? I'm not sure how all of that works, whether I get to pick it myself, or if it's chosen for me or what, but I think that I get the credit on the 10th of the month. Sa-weet!!! I'm really enjoying it! Wish me luck for my 2nd month! If I make my goals, I get $175 worth of free products!
