Back 2 School

Well, my little boy is playing 6th grade Tackle Football this year! Holy cow, am I ready for this?!!! He got his helmet and mouth guard tonight, and had his first practice. He was so tired when he got home, but had a big smile on his face. I think he really liked it! Way to go, Jacob! I think that we're gonna sign up Tom (3rd grade) for Flag Football, and Eme (1st grade) for Cheerleading. Luckily, those are much cheaper than the Tackle football - ha! I've never been a sports parent before, we'll see how I do. I'm not one for driving kids all around all the time. I'm WAY too much of a homebody. LOL! Good thing Florence is a TINY town, and I can get from one end to the other in about 5 minutes. hehehe.

Sunshine on My Shoulder

OK, you guys, did you know it's been 30 days!!! Captain America has been gone for a LONG TIME! I've been doing really well, for the most part, but got a bit sad on Monday. Missing my sweetheart!

It's Birthday Party time again - Yes, I know. You're getting tired of all the b-day pictures, but that's the price you pay for WordArt freebies - ha!

This time, it was the party for my oldest, Jacob. He's b-day is really on Sunday, but since my parent will be in Utah visiting my sister and her family, we did it early. Here's his Transformers donut cake - cute, eh?

Hehehe, look at his eyes, all sparkling! He was so excited about the tall, sparkley candles - ha!

B-day money is always good. We actually drove to the city to go to Wal-mart so that Joe (just turned 5) and Jake (turning 11) could spend their b-day dollars (even if it was a bit early for Jake).

And, here's what he got with his b-day dollars. An Air Soft Pistol. The little neighbor boys have them, and were letting my boys use them yesterday. They had such fun, they decided that they wanted some for their own. Tom had $5.00, so I loaned him the other $6 so he could get one too. Jacob's was a bit better than Tom's, but they both seemed to enjoy them. Check out Jacob's form. Nice. I think his Dad needs to teach him how to shoot - ha!

This one's a little bit better. Good job, Jacob! See the neat target thingy it came with. Not too bad for $14.98 (gun, a few plastic bullets, and target thingy)!

Ha! I remembered this week! Aren't you proud of me! I was beginning to think that I'd never remember - hehehe. I actually made this WordArt on Monday night, so I was more than prepared. Yeah for me!

got music?

So I finished my vampire book series last night! My family will be glad to have me around again - LOL! This is exactly why I don't read books on a regular basic. I get "sucked in", and just have to finish the silly thing off. It really was a good read, and now that I'm done, you don't have to keep listening to me going on and on about it - hehehe. But, just one more time, it really was good! I thoroughly enjoyed myself. I must say, though, I don't think I'd let my early teen daughters (if I had them) read it. Great if you're married, though. Just my though.

Dogs

Yesterday evening, we had a b-day party for my Uncle Harry at my Aunt's house. That's one thing I've missed being away from my family for 4 years (us being in the midwest), was the family b-day parties. My mom, her mom, her sister, her brother, their daughter - they all live in the same town. Before my kids and I got here, there was about one a month. Now, with 6 more b-days in the mix (i have 2 aug, 1 sept, 1 oct, 1 nov, and i'm dec), we have tons of parties in the mix. Anyway, it was a lot of fun to see the family again, and the kids LOVED the donuts. My son Jacob's b-day is the 31st, but we're having the party this Tuesday. Lots of parties - ha! Hopefully I'm done with my diet soon enough to actually eat something at one of these parties here soon! Only 12 lbs to go! Woohoo!

Mother's Daughter

We went to a wedding yesterday for my ....um, let's see if I can figure out the relationship - hehehehe. My mom Lyn's mom Ida's brother Tom's daughter Sheryl Lynn's daughter Katie married a Scottish guy named Cameron. It was a big Scottish wedding, with kilts and everything. Kinda neat. Kinda! Not my type of wedding, but it was outside, and there was a playground for the kids, and lots of food and cake, so who doesn't like that! Our family all wore matching outfits (black shirts with cream pants), so we stood out a bit - hehehe. Too funny!

Here's the wedding party. Boys in skirts? LMBO!!! Ha! I have a funny story for ya. My 4th child, Joe (just turned 5) wanted cake when we first got to the wedding, but of course, they weren't doing cake until the end. First, we told him the cake was a decoration. That worked for a while, but he figured out soon that it wasn't. He was pretty excited when he realized that it was for eating - hehehe. Then, we told him that the cake belonged to the pretty girl in the white dress. He made sure that he kept her in his sites until they cut the cake - LOL! Then, when they finally cut the cake, and Joe got his piece, he ate 2 bites, and traded the rest to his grandpa for his extra piece of bread. I guess that's why Joe is our only skinny kid - hehehe!

Tom was VERY impressed with the big sword. The bride and groom actually used it to cut the cake with - hehehe.

Curious Adventures

So, I'm TOTALLY inthralled in the new Stephanie Meyers vampire books! I'm on book 4, and can't put it down. I've been staying up till 1 or 2 in the morning reading, then getting up with my kids at 7am. I need to hurry and finish off the series before I get sick from lack of sleep - LOL!

I posted a few pics from our family walks we've been taking. Here's one of me and my dad, posing in front of the Casino - ok, so not in front, but it's WAY off there in the back ground. You can see it through the trees at this "dead end" street near our house. Hehehe. My diet is working pretty good, don't ya think! I'm down to 152!!! Woohoo!

Here's Tom and I at Dairy Queen. We walked there for dinner last night (well, they ate there, I had water then came home and had my stir fry). It's probably a mile away. But it's through "Old Town" Florence, and it was neat walking past all of those "touristy" places I usually avoid :)

Here we are on the boardwalk. We even saw a sea lion. The kids thought it was pretty neat.

Hehehe, and I just had to share this one. This is Jacobs (my 10 year old) General Grevious (Star Wars) action figure, that he wrapped up like a mummy. Tom (my 8 year old) was reading a book all about mummies today, and Jacob thought it would be pretty neat to make one himself. Jacob was so proud of his work, and made my mom take a picture of it right when she got home from work. Heheheh, thought I'd share.

Great Cause

So last night was our Ward's (congregation at church) Relief Society (Women's organization at church) Enrichment meeting. We had a cook-off, which was a lot of fun. I signed up for a dessert, and made a cake. It sure smelled good. Here's the recipe.

1 Yellow cake mix
4 eggs
1/2 cup oil
1 can mandarin oranges (with juice)

Mix all 4 ingredients together until orange pieces are broken up, and it's nice and fluffy. Pour into 2 greased round pans. Cook at 350 until done. Ha! Do you like how percise I am. Just tap the top, and if it's springy, then it's done. Cool the cakes.

1 tub cool-whip
1 3oz package vanilla pudding (instant)
1 can crushed pineapple

Mix all 3 ingredients together (including pineapple juice) to make your frosting. Layer and frost the cake, then chill. It sure smelled good (remember, I'm dieting - hehehe).

So, there were about 8 main dishes, 8 salads, 8 jellos (yeah, since when is Jello it's on course?), and 8 desserts. They has small cups, which were numbered, filled with each food. It was a taste testing kind of thing. I had fun smelling my mom's cups. I was good, no cheating for me! I'm 13-14 weeks into my program, and only 12 lbs away from my goal, and I'm not messing it up now :)

So, if you need a fun activity to do in your Enrichment meetings, this is definitely a go!

Life's Treasures

I went and registered my kids for public school today. Holy cow, what a lot of paperwork! I was at the Elementary school for 1 1/2 hours filling out papers and waiting in line. My poor Grandma (who was watching the kids at my moms house), I felt so bad by the time I finally got home. But, it's done. Tom has Mrs. Greene, Eme has Mrs Foster (we know her from church!), and Joe has Mrs. Ransom (PM Kinder). It looks like a nice school, and the staff seemed very nice.

Jacob's school only took 15 minutes to register him. That was more like it - LOL! And, the secretary at the Middle School was one of the same secretaries from my high school years. That was kind of fun seeing her! He'll find out his schedule later in the month. Oregon schools start the day after Labor Day, so we still have about 1/2 a month left of summer.

It was a rainy day today, and it's sure wet out there. Not the rain like in the mid-west, that pours. This is more like a drizzle. A heavy, soaking, drizzle. There's a storm heading to the coast, so we ought to get a lot of rain and wind. But, that's nothing new for the area :) Liquid sunshine!!! Hehehe. But, because it's been a bit cooler as of late (yeah, to the people who live here (I've been freezing since I got here)), my Dad built a fire in the family room! I'm actually wearing a t-shirt (but I still have the socks and long pants on - ha!

Church was good today :) I substituted for the 7 year old class, which my daughter is in. We had fun together :) It was a good bunch of girls (4 of 'em).

We went on a family "stroll" before dinner. It was nice and relaxing - what a nice family activity. All in all, it was a nice Sunday! AND, there was a thunderstorm last night - holy cow! It NEVER thunders on the coast. It needs a cold front and a WARM front (which we have very little of - ha!), but conditions seemed to be just right tonight. We only get 2-4 a year. After coming from the midwest for 4 years, I'd say we get just a few more than that! hehehehehe.

Friendship Be True

So, how is your weekend going? Ours is progressing nicely :) We went on a HUGE family walk/bike ride today. We walked to a park about 20 blocks away, and played for a bit, then walked to Taco Bell for lunch, then wound around some fancy schmancy neighborhoods looking at house that weren't ours, but we sure wished - ha! It was a lot of fun. Jacob (10) and Tom (8) were on bikes, Joe (5) and Jim (2) were in strollers, and poor Eme (6) had to walk. She was exhausted by the time we got home. Poor little thing needs to remember how to ride her bike :)

All afternoon, my mom and I "decluttered" her room. We got 2 giant trash bags full of donate-able clothes. And another trash bag full of trash. It really looked good when we were done. I LOVE decluttering - especially when it's someone else's mess. Ha! You'd think my house is clean, but it's not. Decluttering/organizing and cleaning are 2 different things :) I did have a good time, though. I LOVE hanging out with my mom :)

I also got another letter from Captain America today. I was SO excited! It's amazing how happy a little letter can make me :) Missing my man! But glad that he's doing well, and learning a lot, and that he's gonna protect our country, and make this land safe for our family and others :)

Did It Myself

So, yesterday evening, after a long day at the house, we decided it would be good to go on a family walk. To "walk" off some of that energy the kids all had. We walked a few blocks, then went down the bike trail. A few more blocks got us to a little neighborhood park. My mom didn't want to stay long, so we started off again.

Here's my Dad and I (and Joe), just exiting the bike trail.

So when we finally got close to home, my dad saw this huge sand hill, and said to my oldest, Jake, I'll race you up! And off he went! Jacob was quick to follow - see them in the distance.

Well, thinking that it would be good fun for the other kids too, I told them that anyone who made the top would get a cookie (we'd made homemade oatmeal raisin cookies earlier that day at my aunts house). Well, they ALL wanted to go. So, I grabbed Jim's (the 2 year old) hand, and off we went, up the big hill. Wow, was it big.

This last stretch was really hard. I had to lift Jimmy up, step by step, because it was so steep and sandy. But, the view from the top was fabulous. My mom (who of course didn't want to play), took this up close pic of us. What a great zoom - ha! Jimmy was there too, he was just too short and blocked by the tree :)

What a fun adventure!!!

Dirt

We went to the lake again yesterday. But, we were the only ones there for the first 1 1/2 hours. I think that may be why the kids didn't have quite a much fun on the fun scale (of course, any amount of fun is good, eh?). The tourists finally started arriving at 11, and the kids had 45 minutes to play with kids. My oldest even caught a salamander, which he was SO proud of!

We went to my Aunts house for a visit, and my Grandma and Great Aunt Shirley were there too. It was good to visit for a while. My Aunt has a HUGE tv, and the kids thought it was just like a movie theater. Too cute!

I got 2 letters today from Captain America!!! I was so excited! It sounds like he's doing well. He's in a ....um, Company? with 50 guys, and in a platoon (?) of 200. He said that they're all working OK as a group, but it's hard to get guys of all different ages to work together, especially the "punk" 18-21 year olds :) Get used to that, sweetie :) Anyway, he wanted me to go and buy him a watch, because only a handful out of the 200 had one. Holy cow!

He was pretty specific in what he wanted. It needed a backlight, and a stopwatch, and military time, and a velcro band. Plus, it couldn't have crome (nothing shiny). Sniper attractor, or something like that. Nice, sweetie. I could have done without hearing that :) But yes, I found him a watch that wouldn't attract sniper fire :) Be safe, sweetheart!!!

I thought this saying was SO CUTE, that I made this WordArt for you all. I know that my boys are usually dirty (although less so at my mom's house - she follows them around, cleaning them - ha!), so I have a TON of pics to use with this one.

Check out this photo! This is where we spent the afternoon yesterday - sweet spot, eh?

I LOVE going up the river with my Dad. He used to take us here as kids, and I SO enjoyed having him take me and my kids here too. The river cuts through the rocks, and makes little whirpools and "hot tubs". It was SO fun. The 2 big boys spent the whole time in the water, and the 2 little boys spent the whole time avoiding the water - LOL! At least we didn't have to worry about them drowning - the wouldn't get anywhere near it - ha!

Here's Jake and Tom with the goggle, and Eme after she finally decided that the "crawdads" weren't gonna eat her. She spent the first 2 hours with the little boys on the rocks, wanting to play, but being scared. She finally sucked it up, and realized that mom actually knew what she was talking about, that the "crawdads" would just swim away from her.

And here's the little boys with my dad. Isn't Oregon BEAUTIFUL!!! It was so nice and warm! I've been FREEZING since we moved here, and it's amazing how 20 miles inland will change the temperature. It was HOT, and awesome! Ha! I was in heaven :)

Speaking of me, here I am! I SO love bandanas (or hair hiders, as I refer to them - ha!) And, I even felt OK in my swimming suit, after all my weight loss :) I'm down to 155!!! The very skinniest I've ever been is 152. I'm not far from my lowest now! (my goal is 140)

Now, on to WordArt. OK guys, I'm digging from the bottom of the barrel here - ha! So, we spent the whole afternoon yesterday up the river. Then, I needed to get 2 new WordArt packs designed and ready to go last night, and finished that up at 11pm. So, I'm TOO tired to make a freebie, so I started looking around on my 'puter to see what was there. I found this one, that I'd made for Carla of Designing Moments, a while back.
